Derrywarragh Island. Hunting and Fishing Lodge
Maghery is a village sited on the south western shoreline of Lough Neagh. A detailed reading of the landscape highlighted structures positioned off the shore of Derrywarragh Island. These utilitarian boat moorings and shooting hides have a dialogue with the natural landscape.
A hunting and fishing lodge addresses the Island with a similar attitude as those structures, leading to an investigation on how building responds sensitively and finds its place in the landscape. A restaurant and accommodation block and an outbuilding are arranged to provide a courtyard and a place of retreat. Way-finding through this landscape is explored through moments of enclosure and exposure.
